Limegrove Project Flood-Ready - Barbados Today - June 7, 2010

Flooding should not be an issue for the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre during this hurricane season in the future as it sets its sights on opening its doors on December 15. That’s because developers have been proactive in putting contingency plans in place to eliminate, reduce, and prevent flooding in Holetown, St James where the multi-million dollar complex is under construction.

Speaking during a tour this afternoon with officials from the Barbados Chamber of Commerce, real estate giant and project developer Paul Altman said one of the things taken into consideration to prevent flooding was the construction of a drain to hold eight times the capacity of the original drain, and raising the land by three feet. Altman also said there were new water catchments upstream in the form irrigation ponds at Apes Hill which helps in trapping some of the water. “The capacity of the area has to deal with the water and how it is managed. Right now the area has the capacity to deal with extreme situations,” he said, adding there were no problems over the last two years.

The real estate giant said that at least 80 per cent of the project would be completed by December, while the remainder will be completed by the middle of next year.
